Course contents :  
Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).

Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The level of this course corresponds to the European levels B1-B2. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the first-year course.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Weekly 2-hour class in a group of 25 students from September to December.
Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress regularly.
Recommended or required readings :  
Coursebook Anglais B en 2ème BAC Psychologie, available at Intercopy from September 2011 onwards.
Grammaire Anglaise de Base, available at the Editions ULg and at the "Point de Vue" (ST).
Assessment methods and criteria :  
1. Continuous assessment (one bonus mark out of 1):
marked written assignments attendance (at least 75%) and active participation in class
2. Written exam (20):
vocabulary and reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text, on extracts from the texts studied in class and on extracts from the texts from the readings file.
N.B. The marks obtained for work done during the year count for both exam sessions in January and in August.
