Course contents :

| The remedial course has the aim of revising the basic grammatical structures as well as training reading comprehension skills.

Learning outcomes of the course :

| - Refreshing and increasing students' knowledge of grammar.
- Activating reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, detecting text coherence.
- Expanding the vocabulary related to the fields of psychology |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| A basic knowledge of English (equivalent to the A2-level of the CEFRL) |
|
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
|
| Weekly one and a half hour classes in average-sized groups from the first week of November till the Easter break.
The course module will be devoted to revising the basics of English grammar as well as the training of reading skills.
Students will have to prepare the reading file at home for the final exam. This reading file is made up of articles that deal with psychological themes.
Regular practise is key to the student's progress. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| 1° A mock test will assess students' assimilation of the grammar rules ans reading comprehension skills. This test will take place in February.
2° The final written exam will be based on 1) the grammar module, 2) all texts seen in class 3) the reading file. It will assess students' reading abilities as well as their knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary.
Multiple Choice Questions will be used for both the January test and the final written exam. |

Organizational remarks :
|
| A compulsory placement test will be organized on 26th October from 8:30am to 10:30am at the zoology lecture room (quai van Beneden).
Students can train on-line. To do so, simply log on to the ISLV (Institut Supérieur des Langues Vivantes) website http://www.islv.ulg.ac.be. Click on ANGLAIS and then on INTERFACE ETUDIANTS in order to have access to the exercises. This website also contains several exams and their key.
Students can also sign up for one of the free English courses organised within the framework of the so-called @lter program. These interactive courses ideally complement the first-year refresher course as well as the second-year level A course. |
