Course contents :  
This course aims to develop the four linguistic skills, namely:
  • oral expression
  • written expression
  • aural comprehension
  • reading comprehension
Learning outcomes of the course :  
  • To be able to reproduce an orally coherent and syntactically correct text
  • To be able of producing a narrative or argumentative text which is grammatically correct
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
To have a basic understanding of both written and oral forms of the language and to know the grammatical foundations of the language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
  • The method used is both active and direct, requiring students' constant participation, practising comprehension (reading, listening) and expression (written and oral)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Two and a half hours of classes a week throughout the year. One and a half hours with Eudoxie Voidanidis and one hour with Yolanda Lorente Carrillo.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
20 % : continuous assessment, including the exam in January which does not exempt students from other exams
80 %: June assessment: written and oral exam
  • 40 % : oral exam: for one half of it, based on a set novel, students will be asked questions about the contents of the text. For the other half, students will be tested on the course contents and will have to prove that they are capable of speaking elaborately both on a grammatical and lexical level about the subjects dealt with over the year.
  • 40 % : written exam: write an elaborate, coherent and structured text (narrative or argumentative), a reading and listening comprehension.
