Academic year 2011-2012:
"On the Route of Santiago de Compostela from the 10th to the 16th century: architecture, sculpture, painting and metalwork".
In the Romanesque period in particular, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela enjoyed an extraordinary development which will be approached during this course through the remarkable architectures that stand along "the Way of St. James" and often carry beautiful groups of sculptures. Yet we shall not limit ourselves to the Romanesque period neither shall we limit ourselves to the appreciation of the monumental heritage. Indeed, the Way of St James remained vivid along the Gothic period until the dawn of the Renaissance. Furthermore, illuminated manuscripts, some statues and remarkable silver groups are as worthwhile and instructive as the largest and most typical pilgrimage churches.
