Course contents :  
The course in estate planning combines both theory and practice. By way of introduction, the reasons for the increased interest in this discipline from individuals will be examined. The questions which should be asked prior to conducting estate planning will subsequently be addressed. Finally, the different estate planning instruments will be analysed, using practical case studies such as: - property owner - business owner - an incapable person - a cohabiting person, etc.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of his or her training, the student should be capable of drawing up a property analysis and giving legal and fiscal advice to individuals wishing to optimise the transfer of their goods and property to their heirs.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
To enrol in this course, students should have mastered the following subjects:
- registration fees (essential for donations);
- inheritance tax;
- law relating to gifts and inheritances, detailed course given within the Complementary Masters in Notary Studies;
- law relating to matrimonial regimes, detailed course given within the Complementary Masters in Notary Studies.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course takes place on Thursdays from 13:30 to 16:30 from 29th March to 10th May 2012. It combines both lectures and practical work.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Defence of a property case.
Cases will be given back to students at the end of the course.
Oral presentation with written support
Individual presentation or in teams of two (student's choice).

This is a compulsory course for the Complementary Masters in Notary Studies.
It is particularly aimed at people:
- working in notarial environments (notaries and their colleagues);
- working in the finance sector (banks, insurance companies, asset management);
- members of the Bar (lawyers specialising in property law).
