Course contents :  
The course is divided into three parts.
The first part is devoted to the rights of individual employment relations, with examination of employment contracts and labour regulation in particular, and looking at the influence of European legislation on Belgian legislation, especially in the area of company transfers and gender equality.
The second part deals with collective employment relations, studying the consultation and negotiation bodies, the negotiated standards of labour law and collective labour disputes.
The third deals with social welfare law and employee contribution regulations.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To give an introduction to the concepts of labour law and social welfare required of company managers and university graduates who will have to deal with personnel.
Critical and reasoned examination of a series of case studies dealing mainly with the rules of termination of employment contracts, non-competition clauses, employee responsibility and the hierarchy of labour law sources.
To identify the stakeholders in collective bargaining as well as their competence in the Belgian model of social consultation.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Three-hour written examination, comprising open questions on theory and resolution of practical cases.
Students may bring to the examination the text of 2 laws (underlined but without notes):
- the law of 3 July 1978 on Employment Contracts
- the law of 5 December 1968 on Collective Agreements and Joint Committees.
