CHIM9239-1  Biological molecules chemistry

Duration :  24h Th
Number of credits :
Bachelor in bioengineering, 2nd yearSecond semester2
Lecturer :  Michel Paquot
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
Amino acids, peptides and proteins - structure and main properties - examples of protein structure(alpha-keratin, fibroïn, collagen, alastin) - mechanisms of denaturarion and practical importance Glucids - main oses - chemical reactivity and physical properties - structure and conformation - polysaccharides (starch, inulin, cellulose, hemicelluloses) - applications Lipids - structure and properties of fatty acids - glycerides - unsaponifiable - physical properties - applications
Learning outcomes of the course :
To give basic knowledge in organic chemistry of natural molecules
After completing the course the student is expected to
be able to give back the basic knowledge of the main group of compounds from biological origin: protein, lipids and glucids, to demonstrate the convergence points with the cursus in organic chemistry and to point out the first application of the teached topics.
