Course contents :

| The APPs devoted to cardiovascular, digestive and respiratory disorders are organized during semester 8 as up and down sessions (8 wednesdays afternoon) during which the students, divided in groups of 8 to 9 persons and accompanied by two guides (one pharmacist and one physician), examine the text of a problem (up session). The latter describes a clinical situation in which appears the prescription of specific drugs (integration of physiopathological and therapeutic aspects). From this context, the student has to search by himself or with his group the information relative to the text and has to answer the objectives of the different branches of learning participating to the APPs (down session). |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| By definition, the APP consists in the analysis of a problem by small groups of students under the supervision of one (or more) guide(s) (teachers, assistants, professionals). It can be defined as a self-learning process by which the student has to gain a greater autonomy for analysing problems that he will encounter during his professional carrier. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Due to the pluridisciplinarity of this teaching, the important subjects received during the previous years and during the first semester of the fourth year constitute the prerequisites (physiopathology, biochemistry, genetics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, toxicology, biological chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, ...). |

| The APPs are organized in semester 8 from early February until the end of April during the wednesday afternoons (10 sessions):
- one introduction session to the APPs
- eight APPs sessions (up - down)
- one summarizing session |

Recommended or required readings :
|
| The students receive a "notebook for student" at each new APP session. The notebook comprises several parts (summary of the problem, semantic, list of phenomenons that have to be explained, list of objectives, physiopathological and therapeutic scheme) and must be completed by the student for the down session. |
|
Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| Written examination (first session in May - June).
Written examination (second session in Augustus - September).
A note is also attributed according to the active participation or not of the students during the APP sessions. |
|
Organizational remarks :
|
| The design and animation of the APPs is granted in tight collaboration with a team of physicians coordinated by professor D. GIET as well as by members of the academic and scientific staff of the Department of Pharmacy. |
