ARCH0211-1  Mathematics 2

Duration :  24h Th
Number of credits :
Bachelor in architecture (ULg), 2nd yearFirst semester2
Lecturer :  Sylvie Jancart
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
Functional analysis
  • Multiple variable functions. Double and triple integrals
  • 1st order differential equations
Geometry 2D special curves, 3D (volumes, regulated surfaces, polyhedrons, ...)
Fractals notions
tools : Partial derivatives and matrix calculus
Learning outcomes of the course :
In the same spirit as for the 1st Bachelor's course, we will primarily develop practical exercises which will constitute the application of the analysis in relation to multiple variable functions. The geometric aspects dealt with will relate to the measurement of lengths, surfaces, and volumes, using double and triple integrals. 1st order equations will allow us to establish equations for practical problems.
In a second step, we develop the geometrical part of mathematics. We generalize the sketches of curves and surfaces in 3D. Numerous examples are chosen to illustrate the course (software, architectural pictures, ...)
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Mathematique 1 (1bac) : analysis, trigo, ... Graphics and thought processes
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
face-to-face
Assessment methods and criteria :
written exam in January
