Course contents :
- Enzymes and mechanisms of energy-giving conversions;
- Substrate uptake and entry to the cell;
- Protein secretion;
- Microbial biodegradation: from monomers to polymers;
- Cellular metabolism: assimilation of N, C, S and P components; biosynthesis of monomers and polymers;
- Metabolic regulations: mechanisms at the molecular level;
- Applied topics: carbon and energy fluxes, fermentations, gastrointestinal microflora, rumen microflora, prebiotics and probiotics, antibiotic resistance and its set of problems and solutions in animal production;
- Practical works: methods measuring some parameters of microbial metabolisms.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Overview of biochemical mechanisms developed for generation of cellular energy and biosynthesis required for their needs according to their environment. Study of the microflora with specific emphasis on nutrition and health.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- approach by the best way the different aspects of the microbial metabolism of a given precise complex system
- practice the appropriate study techniques of a particular metabolism.
