Course contents :  
Course aims to help the student to understand how, based on plant physiology, pedoclimatical and agronomical conditions, the technical pathway and input choice, including their application mode, are reasoned for a crop. Winter wheat crop is given as an example case.
The course is divided in chapters:
1. Development and growth of wheat, quality parameters ;
2. Order in crop rotation;
3. Soil tillage and sowing preparation;
4. Variety;
5. Crop establishment;
6. Nutritious needs and fertilization;
7. Biotic stress and crop protection;
8. Harvest and storage
9. Comparison between wheat and other cereals
10. Adaptation of cropping techniques according to requirements of other major crops.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Give basics of the functioning and the dynamics of crop production in temperate regions, depending on different biotic, abiotic and socioeconomical factors.
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
  • Understand the development of crops and its relation with the yield.
  • Assess the potentialities and constraints of different environments.
  • Define technical pathways in order to ensure an economically profitable and environmentally respectful production, which also comply with technological, industrial and sanitary norms.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Lectures "ex cathedra", are largely illustrated with slideshows and movies. Students are likely to answer questions at any times.
Diverse "popular documents", intended for a wide audience are proposed to the students.
