| Course contents : | First of all, a special attention will be paid to the determination of plant diseases and causal agents responsible of these diseases. An herbarium of diseased plants will be constituted by the student. This student will be also able to learn the way of a good diagnostic by his confrontation to concrete examples of agricultural and horticultural problems due to plant diseases with a software. Other techniques will be teach throughout Training courses such as : - Koch Postulate (identification and symptom reproduction of plant disease ) - Use of serological and molecular techniques for the detection of plant pathogens - Assessment of biological control method efficacy - Assessment of chemical control method efficacy |
 |
| Course objective : | The course presents the principal methods of diagnosis to identify or detect a plant pathogen and their theoretical bases (biological tests, serologic and molecular approaches). After completing the course the student is expected to - To understand and to apply different protocols of phytosanitary analysis (Koch's postulate, insect transmission of viruses, serological tests and molecular tests) and to analyse the significance of results in a professional context (detection, certification,¿) ; - To select the most appropriate technique to solve a phytosanitary problem by integrating pathological considerations (objectives of the analysis), regulation and economical constraints (cost, quality assurance,¿). |
