Course contents :  Introduction to elementary statistical procedures : Concept of variable, measures of central tendency and variability, normal distribution, probabilities, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and inferential statistics, binomial distribution, chi-square tests for categorical data, Student t tests for paired and independent samples, non-parametric tests, correlations and linear regressions.


The course emphasizes the use of statistical procedures in situations that psychologists might encounter. The content of the course therefore focuses on data analysis and exercise solving.
Course objective :  There are three goals in this course:

1) Introduction to basic statistical procedures to allow the analysis of simple data and the formulation of a conclusion accordingly

2) To allow students to read and understand the scientific literature in psychology

3) To develop the analytic and critical thinking of students
Prerequisites :  The course requires a good knowledge of basic mathematics
Workshops :  Exercises are provided with each chapter of the course and are weekly corrected during practicals
Written notes :  A theoretical syllabus and a syllabus with exercises are provided
Assessment :  An open book exam is organized at the end of the course. The questions essentially involve problem solving and data analysis.
