Duration :  30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Education Sciences, in-depth approach, 1st yearToute l'année6
Master in Education, Professional Focus in teaching, 1st yearToute l'année6
Master in Education, Professional Focus in Adult Education, 1st yearToute l'année6
Holder(s) :  Brigitte Denis
Language :  French language
Course contents :  This course deals with the following topics:
1. Self-learning and distance learning 2. Development of ICT competences useful to citizens, workers and learners 3. Problem based learning, collaborative learning supported by ICT 4. Knowledge management tools sustaining Communities of Practice activities 5. Design process of multimedia products or websites production 6. Instrumentation through technological tools of levels evaluation related to training and learning
Course objective :  The three main objectives of this course are to let the student be able to:

- use for him/herself Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) critically and efficiently for learning purposes
- develop an critical overview of several tools and technological products useful in a training context
- analyze and/or design learning environments (having recourse to ICT) and uses of technological tools for learning purposes

The student will

  • analyze adults training and learning situations (including his/her own experience)
  • establish links between the concepts of self-learning and distance learning (e-learning)
have an overview of different tools useful in a training context and related to learning, communication, collaboration and evaluation
  • use several computerized tools linked to the course topics and activities (e.g. Internet browser, electronic mail, tagging system, educational software, evaluation software, forums, chat, editing software (presentation, word processor, wiki, ...), distance learning platforms, videoconference, computerized testing, etc.) in order to search information, evaluate multimedia resources, produce documents, communicate, debate, collaborate, manage traing and learning activities and self-evaluate
  • use different "models" (e.g. regulation process, competences pyramid, six teaching and learning paradigms, "Diamant", seven pillars of self learning, ...) to analyze several learning products and environments
  • describe and argument actors' roles in a distance learning environment, especially those of the e-tutor in different types of distance learning environments
  • argue added value of ICT uses to communicate and train in different adults' training contexts
  • realize an ergonomic and pedagogical analysis on multimedia products quality
  • know the different stages of the design process of multimedia products and argue on their pertinence
  • establish links between the development of a knowledge management system and technological tools
  • discuss the potential contributions of technologies to the animation of Communities of Practice
  • develop a reflexive approach on his/her own learning process
Prerequisites :  PEDA-0518-1, Introduction aux sciences de l'éducation, partim I (D. Leclercq)

PEDA-025-1, Introduction aux sciences de l'éducation, partim II (B. Denis)

The most important prerequisites are recalled at the beginning of the year.
Workshops :
  • Sub-groups activities (e.g. case analysis) in face-to-face and at a distance
  • Teacher's lectures
  • Computer assisted presentations by students of at least one personal work on a topic proposed by the professor
  • Demonstrations
  • Provision by the students of information ("News") linked to the course domain (cf. http://newstic.centerblog.net (http://argentera.inria.fr/swikiulg/data/Main/WikiNewsTICFA.jsp" target="_blank) )
  • LQRT method (Reading - Questions from the learners - Answers by the teacher - Test)
  • Practical work based on the use of different services of documents edition, communication and sharing of information (! Mandatory presence)
  • E-mail exchanges with the professor about individual work management
  • Concrete learning and communication distance activities (f.i. through the use of a distance learning platform)
  • Elaboration of a portfolio and of a logbook
  • Regulation of the collective work by the teacher and of the course by the students.

Practical work deals with activities of analysis, design and communication undertaken during the course (face-to-face sessions).
More, the students will have to create or make a critical analysis of a scenario of adults training including one or several activities supported by ICT. This work can be done individually or by pair. To do this, the student will integrate different concepts and use several tools or models of analysis of the course.
Organization :  The course consits in a blended learning environment combining face-to-face activities (3 hours) and distance activities.
Written notes :  A syllabus and online resources are available.

Denis, B. (2008). Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication pour la Formation d'Adultes. Liège: Université de Liège.
Assessment :  Professor's expectations: Active learners, having critical points of views, able to initiate themselves to different techniques and to make links with other courses.

The assessment is based on:

1. Active participation to the course and practical work (80% of presence is required to the face-to-face sessions, personal reflections, participation to collective reflection and debate, provision of « News », ...)
2. Work presentations (oral or written reports) during courses
3. Design of pedagogical scenario integrating ICT
4. Realization of practical work
5. Oral exam

On the one hand, the assessment is based on work done (during and outside the course) and practical work (creation or analysis of a training environment). On the other hand, the oral exam will deal with the answer to a (global) question permitting to knit links between the different chapters of the course. This question will be prepared by the student with all the materials he wants (syllabus, personal notes,...) during 15 minutes before he/she presents the answer to the professor.

The students are asked to elaborate a portfolio with their work and to keep tracks of their reflections on their learnings during this courses (e.g. through a logbook).

Repartition of the notes:

- Active participation to the course, realization and presentation of work: 40%
- Practical work: 40%
- Oral exam: 20%
