Course contents :  
  • To an sustainable automotive era
  • Longitudinal vehicle dynamics
  • Propulsion forces (ICE, electric motors)
  • Rolling resistance and aerodynamics drags
  • Steady state performance and acceleration performances
  • Fuel consumption and emissions
  • Real life fuel consomption and emissions
  • Green cars: active and passive strategies
Lab works on chassis dynamometer. Computer lab work: Normalized measurement of fuel consumption and emissions on NEDC and real driving cycles.
Course objective :  
  • Knowledge of major performance critera of road vehicles
  • To be able to calculate the performance and the fuel consumption / emissions of vehicle on standard and real-life driving cycles
Prerequisites :  
  • Basics in mechanics, in applied themodynamics and electric drives
Workshops :  Lab works on chassis dynamometer. Computer lab work: Normalized measurement of fuel consumption and emissions on NEDC and real driving cycles.
Organization :  Week from 20 to 24 September, 2010 at the Campus Automobile in Spa-Francorchamps
