Course contents :  The lecture investigates the handling of vehicle while cornering and manoeuvering. The following points will be studied.
  • Introduction to vehicle dynamics
  • Tire mechanics
  • Steady state cornering
  • Suspension mechanics
  • MBS modelling applied to vehicle dynamics
  • Data acquisition : instrumentation and measurement techniques
Course objective :  Mastering the fundamental concepts of vehicle handling and the relationships with the design variables.
Prerequisites :  Knowledge in Theoretical Mechanics, Machine Design and Construction, Vibration of Mechanical Systems, Control Systems.
Workshops :  
  • Closed-form exercices, computer exercices (MATLAB)
  • Race tracks and proving ground testing.
Organization :  The lectures are given in English in one week (November 8-15, 2010) at Campus Automobile in Spa-Francorchamps.
