Course contents :  Basic concepts and laws of newtonian mechanics. Application to the movement of material point (in electromagnetic field, central forces, at the surface of the Earth, "variable mass" systems) and solid bodies (plane and 3D).
Course objective :  Understanding of newtonian mechanics and mathematical modelling of mechanical systems.
Prerequisites :  Calculus (functions of real variables, ODE, vector calculus) and geometry (coordinate systems, Frenet local coordinate system)
Organization :  Lectures : 30 hours - Exercices : 30 hours.

First semester.
Written notes :  Mécanique Rationnelle - Modèle mathématique de Newton, Eric J.M. Delhez, 2003, Etienne Riga editor.
Assessment :  One intermediate written test during the first semester (20% of the final note).

Final written test in January.

A written test in September (retake).
