| Course contents : | Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class. |

| Course objective : | Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook. |

| Prerequisites : | The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the first- and second-year courses in the bachelor's degree. |

| Organization : | Weekly 2-hour class in a group of 25 students from February to May 2011.
Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress regularly. |

| Written notes : | Coursebook Anglais C+ for Speech and Learning Therapy, available at Intercopy from February 2011 onwards. |

| Assessment : | 1. Continuous assessment (1 mark):
marked written assignments
attendance (at least 75%) and active participation in class
2. Written exam (9 marks):
grammar and vocabulary exercises, writing exercises (definitions and comparisons) and reading comprehension exercises based on one or several unseen text(s) and on texts studied in class.
3. Oral exam (8 marks)
- Oral presentation of a text from the textbook in groups of 3 or 4 students (= 4 marks).
- Oral exam based on at least 20 pages and at least 2 texts from the textbook (not the text presented in class) (= 4 marks).
4. Listening comprehension exam (2 marks)
N.B. The marks (of 10/20 or above 10/20) obtained for work done during the year count for both exam sessions in June and August. |
