Course contents :  The topics we are going to deal with are :
1/ Energy and climate 2/ Food
3/ Agriculture
4/ Education for sustainable development Each topic includes : a. listening comprehension activities from the BBC site(http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/multimedia) and from Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth';
b. reading comprehension activities from the scientific press(New Scientist, etc) and the Internet;
c. grammar revisions and exercises;
d. writing activities(diagrammes, summaries, letters, etc)
e. speaking activities(interaction and production)
Course objective :  At the end of the course, the student will reach Level B1- (on his way to B1 'Independent User' - Low) of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
After completing the course the student is expected to
-understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters. Understand the main point of many radio and TV programmes when the delivery is relatively slow and clear.
-understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. Understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
-deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. -enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life.
-connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences, events and ambitions. -briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
-write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
Prerequisites :  The A1 level (beginner) on the reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
