| Duration : | 15h Th, 15h Pr |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Nathalie Fagel |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | Study of basic geochemical concepts requested for the interpretation of the geochemical signature of marine sediment records. Examples from literature and from personal proposals.
The cursus is divided in four parts:
- introduction; - diagenetic processes; - exchanges between sediment particles and interstitial water; - cycle of metallic elements. |
| Course objective : | Study of chemical processes leading to formation of sedimentary rocks. Analyses of physical and chemical modifications through early diagenesis. Influence of kinetics and bacterial activity. |
| Prerequisites : | Basic knowledge of mineral chemistry and thermodynamic. |
| Workshops : | Analyses and interpretation of geochemical signatures of sediments. Treatment and interprétation of analyses géochimiques. Use of excel softawre. |
| Organization : | Course will be given during the second semester. Theory: 5 lectures x 3h.
Practise: 5 x 3h. |

| Written notes : | Syllabus available on the laboratory webpage wwww. ulg.ac.be/urap |
| Assessment : | Examination will include two parts.
Theory (50% of final quotation). Individual oral examination (15 minutes + preparation). Comments of figures and/or tables presented during the lectures.
TP - Personal work (0.50% of final quotation). Selection of a scientific paper related to sedimentary geochemistry. Oral presentation with supports (15 minutes) and short written report (max 2 pages). |
