| Course contents : | "Stuctural Mechanics - part II" comprise two main parts. The first part presents methods for analysing plated and shell structures. The second part presents methods for analysing structures subjected to dynamic and seismic actions. |

| Course objective : | Teach the students the methods available to analyse plated and shell structures and to study dynamic problems. A specific attention is put on understanding the physics of the structural behaviour. |

| Prerequisites : | Basic courses in solid and structure mechanics |
|
| Workshops : | Practical sessions are included in the time-schedule. During these sessions, students are applying the methods presented in the theoretical lectures for practical cases (vibrations of building or bridges, seismic behaviour of simple structures, stability of bridge elements, resistance of tanks...). Students are expected to provide synthesis reports on the various problems studied. |

| Organization : | The course is given at the first semester. Monday afternoon (14:00 to 16:00) for "plates and shells" and wednesday morning (8:30 to 12:30) for "structural dynamics".
The sessions can be either theoretical lectures or practical exercises. An indicative time-schedule is provided to the student beginning of september. |

| Written notes : | Supporting notes are available for the part "Plates and shells". For the part on "structural dynamics", copies of the PPT. presentations are given to the students. For structural dynamics, a list of reference books is also available. The reading of these books is not mandatory but strongly recommended. |

| Assessment : | Students are evaluated on the basis of marks related to the reports on the practical applications and on the results of an oral examination on theoretical matters and on the understanding of the applications realised during the exercises sessions. The balance between report marks and oral examination marks is about 1/3 - 2/3. |
