Course contents :  ¿ Starting with the Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment, the course presents the legal bases of the Walloon juridical system of the environmental impacts assessment of projects (EIA).
¿ The effects identification and assessment method used by the Walloon administration are presented. This method is then detailed based on exemplary cases.
¿ The European legal frame of the environmental assessment (Directive 2001/42/EC known as the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive) and the Walloon legislation and the methodologies that are implicated.
¿ The place and role of the strategic environmental assessment and the Walloon impact assessment of projects compared to an environmentalist method of the land management
¿ Illustrations of the methodologies based on case studies. Build upon student contribution: each student analyses and presents a EIA or a SEA: its impacts assessment method, its techniques of effects characterisation and quantification, as well as the norms and references for their appreciation.
Course objective :  The objective of the course is to introduce to assessment of the effects on the environment of projects, plans and land-use perspective documents as a component of the conception and decision-making in town and country planning.
After completing the course the student is expected to
¿ to know the legal bases, main principles and definitions according to the European and Walloon legislation on environmental impact assessment and assessment of the effects of plans on the environment
¿ to build the frame of the effects of a countryside project on the environment
¿ to be able to take part of an assessment team and value his bio-engineer skills in common rural and agrarian project assessment
