| Course contents : | The bulk of the course aims at explaining the main rules governing both the rights in creations and productions (copyright, neighbouring rights, databases, designs and models, patents, know-how, ...) and the rights on distinctive signs (trademarks, tradenames, indications of origin, domain names...). For each major right, the following topics are covered: legal sources, subject matter and conditions of protection, assignment, scope of protection, including the exceptions to the rights and their respective duration. The above study is preceded by a general introduction to IP law. We will see how this field of the law developped, explain what fundamental principles and major distinctions are governing it and make some reflections about the very nature of IP rights. In a final part, two horizontal topics are dealt with: on the one hand, litigation, on the other, the field of tension between IP law and the rules of the Internal market and fair competition enshrined within the EC Treaty. |

| Assessment : | Written exam covering the entire subject matter of the course and divided into two parts. The first part is theoretic (true or false questionnaire). The second part is practical (resolution of practical cases). |
