Precipitation, Partition, Ion exchange, Chromatography, Electrophoresis

Course objective :  To draw molecular and structural properties of biomolecules.
Present analysis and purification methods for biomolecules
After completing the course the student is expected to
Understand the different principles of bio-molecules separation and be able to choose the right principle in function of the molecules to separate
Understand the ionization phenomenon and predict the possible effect on association, biological activity.
Be able to achieve a chromatographic separation (practical work)
Prerequisites :  CHIM9237-1 - General chemistry
CHIM9240-1 - Organic chemistry (first part)
CHIM9239-1 - Biological molecules chemistry
Workshops :  Extraction and purification of proteins by gel filtration.
Determination of DM, nitrogen and essential amino acids in food.
Quantitation of proteins by Folin method.
Ion exchange chromatography.
