| Course contents : | Maps
Topographical, geological andpedological maps, Belgium's cadastral map. The main cartographic projections.
Using IT tools.
Digitalisation of cartographic documents.
Vector mode and the image mode.
Geo-referencing and corrections to be made to cartographic documents.
Creating a digital model of the terrain.
Creating slope maps.
Creating an allocation map.
Geographical Information Systems.
Maps linked to territorial development
Integration into geographical information systems. Evaluation of the impact of developments on the environment and notably in relation to natural risks. Examples: solar energy, flooding, land slides, risks linked to karst. |

| Course objective : | Students will understand new IT technologies used to create territorial development maps. Students will be able to direct development work and to understand the results obtained using IT tools. |

| Prerequisites : | Sciences courses in the Baccalaureat. |

| Organization : | Lectures will often give way to tutorials led by students who will analyse and comment upon documents presented during lessons.
The concepts analysed and studied during class will be the subject of site visits. |

| Assessment : | An hour-long oral exam which will consist of using the concepts acquired by the student and his or her performance during their use in exercises similar to real future exercises which they will encounter during their site visits and during the creation of their projects. |
