| Course contents : | A small scale project will be considered in its entirety. It will include small-scale housing function specific to each site and will have two themes, leading to greater specificity and uniqueness of the response and relevant technical research.
The project should be studied in its entirety (construction and content, cost and form) with attention to detail from the first idea through to the final elements.
Information will be gained from library research (equivalent examples, technical documentation, Internet ...) using resource people from inside or outside the Institute, using the help of the teaching staff.
- Sites are proposed, each with a specific programme and difficulties, in particular the concept of working on a small scale and integration into a quality rural environment.
In addition to these constraints, a general theme will be assigned, that of ecological construction. This is not to be considered in terms of the clichés which can be associated with these words (organic architecture, natural materials...) but by reflecting upon what responsible behaviour in terms of the environment in the largest sense of the term can mean (energy costs of producing materials used during construction, energy bills, pre-cycling, recycling, minimal use of drinking water ...)
Exercise in composition and the organisation of space, both internally and externally, of a project tackled individually or in groups of two. |
 |
| Course objective : | The aim of the workshop is to create a concise but complete project where each element contributes to the success of the whole. Awareness of all the stages involved in making a project a success.
The workshop aims to:
- clarify project priorities at an early stage through drafting a text which will act as a guide or contract throughout the entire project;
- to learn how to manage specific constraints and to integrate them into the project from conception through to the finishing touches;
- to learn how to research and use the information required to provide a high quality response;
- to learn about coherence between concept and detail through regular movement between the general and the particular at various stages of conception.
