  • Introduction - Security - Health - Society.
  • Evolution of the profession of architect - the concept of independence within the profession + reform of the Order.
  • Reminder of an architect's civic and professional responsibilities.
  • Reminder of the texts which regulate the architectural profession - texts established by the Order of Architects (regulations, recommendations, rules ...) - legal status - disciplinary procedure - jurisprudence of disciplinary sentences - European directives - etc.
Professional practice:
  • Site organisation.
  • Expertise.
  • File of town planning authorisations.
  • Professional statutes: intern, independent, partnership, company, employee, civil servant ...; contracts; calculating expenses (N.D. no. 2).
  • Civil responsibility and professional insurance; partners in the act of building.
  • Clients.
  • Documents in a preliminary file; plans; specifications; how to judge tenders; adjudication; planning; site co-ordination and monitoring; checking execution; receptions; litigation ... ;

Course objective :  Ethics: to encourage the integration of a demanding personal and professional ethical code into architecture, in particular through the acquisition of behaviour based on spontaneous ethical practice.
Professional practice: to encourage the integration of basic knowledge into the architectural profession, in particular in relation to current requirements inherent in the exercise of the profession, in addition to research or architectural design.
Prerequisites :  High personal motivated in terms of the choice of professional activity in the field of architecture. Clear perception of the concept of public interest in architectural creation and the high profile role of an architect in society. Sensitivity to the concepts of law, morality, ethics, skill and professional conscience.
Concepts of graphic construction and technique - architectural plans and town planning authorisations are an integral part of contracts between architects and their clients.

Assessment :  
  • Ethics: For example: analysis of actual disciplinary sentences in relation to professional ethics. Questions on knowledge of regulatory texts of the Order of Architects. (reproducing knowledge), etc... What is ethical behaviour?
  • Professional practice: Evaluation of the exercise (complete file of town planning authorisations to be submitted as a piece of work in groups of two students) based on the graphic and technical quality of the documents, the importance of submitting a complete file so that students are aware of what is expected of them when they complete their studies and begin their work placements - reminder that town planning authorisations act as a contract between the parties, or at least form part of such a contract.
Drafting or at least being aware of the elements which are indispensable to include in an architectural contract, in a company contract and in an insurance contract. Knowledge of the important elements in legal texts, forms which architects and their clients must sign when applying for town planning authorisation.
