| Course contents : | Throughout the year, two or three analytical projects will be offered on programmes linked to individual housing or buildings with a similar function, or to small- or medium-scale public sector building.
These projects are interspersed with regular exercises, the aim of which is to develop one or more specific parameters: scale, ergonomics, spatiality, external constraints, integration, materiality and expression.
These regular exercises will complement the ongoing project. |

| Course objective : | To make students aware of the complexity of architecture, and to motivate them to progressively integrate this complexity into the project.
To establish the link between classes and the workshop, which acts as the "laboratory" for applying the material learned in class.
To develop curiosity and create an environment which promotes imagination and open-mindedness.
- to observe, analyse, read, travel and SEE.
To learn how to express ideas and research (orally and graphically).
- to showcase ideas and to distinguish the important from the incidental.
- to generate an analytical frame of mind;
- for students to be comfortable with their ideas for their projects and find the means to achieve them.
To learn time-management and how to organise different pieces of work.
To enjoy working, and to find pleasure in learning and creating.

| Prerequisites : |
- The desire to learn and to put this learning into practice.
- Curiosity and open-mindedness.
- Having understood the classes and workshops in the first year of the Baccalaureat.

| Organization : | Day-long workshops every week.
Students will be split into working groups:
- Learning to share, to compare ideas and to create a working dynamic.
- To learn to depersonalise the project, and to work around the project rather than the opposite.
- To combine skills in order to develop a broader approach.
The exercises are individual, but can be accompanied by collective responsibility and group work. Presentations will always be conducted in groups to encourage debate and widen the scope of learning.
Criticism should be viewed as positive, contributing towards progression. Criticism should not be personal, and should be useful to all; everyone should be able to apply the criticism to their own work.
Students should adopt a participative approach: listening, questioning, and participating.
The teacher supports the students. The teacher aims to understand the students' personalities and to provide them, as far as possible, with the means to develop their personalities and to achieve autonomy. The teacher cannot carry out the project for the student, but through examples, suggestions, words or sketches, can give students clues to understand how they themselves may find what they are looking for. The teacher asks questions and stimulates awareness. The role of the student is to deduce, to search, to apply and to respond. Students remain responsible for the progress of their projects and for investing time in the workshops. |

| Written notes : | Discoveries through travel, presentations and analysis of examples.
Research and personal experiences: the student is the agent of his or her own learning. |

| Assessment : | In terms of the objectives of the exercise or the project, important criteria will be assessed through comments rather than through grades, which should enable the student to progress.
The assessment focuses more on the means than the end result, and will grade students' understanding and their ability to put into place the means required to turn an idea into practice.
The end of year work will be assessed based on the European grade system (letters).
The final grade will demonstrate the student's ability to tackle the year ahead (half for the work accomplished during the year, and half for the end of year jury).
All work which is not handed in by the relevant deadline, without good reason, will result in a zero grade.
Presence in the workshops is compulsory. |
