Duration :  90h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelier en architecture (Lambert Lombard), 2nd yearToute l'année6
Holder(s) :  Sarah Behets, Aniceto Exposito‑Lopez
Language :  French language
Course contents :  The drawing workshop consists of a succession of exercises which are both lively and rigorous, organised in such a way as to raise students' awareness of essential requirements, including:
  • precision and accuracy (observation, construction, layout ...)
  • quality of expression (personality, character ...)
  • experimentation, prospecting (independence, artistic intelligence)
The drawing course should stimulate reflection on the relationship between the arts and architecture.
Several classes are dedicated to drawing the human body, with the help of choreographed dancers to approach the relationship between the body and space.
This involves helping students to master drawing, so that it can spontaneously be used as an indispensable tool for work (research, analysis ...) and communication (dialogue, presentation ...) by future architects.
Course objective :  This drawing course within the architectural teaching programme aims on the one hand to give students the opportunity to represent things precisely and on the other hand to contribute towards developing their creative potential.
Observation occurs and becomes easier through practicing drawing. In learning how to observe and translate one's perception of the visible world, students have the opportunity to develop their own language. This should give students the means of graphic expression, sharpen their sensitivity and their sense of visual criticism, skills which are useful for all creative occupations.
In addition, through drawing students are able to represent space, light, colour, volume and texture on paper. These are also relevant to architecture, and drawing allows them to be approached in a way which is complementary to that covered in other classes.
Finally, drawing constitutes a discipline which can be infinitely explored. It is an ideal tool to give students the taste for discovery. It is important to guide future architectural or drawing professionals towards work which involves perpetual research. Moreover, a significant part of the role of a drawing teacher consists of pointing out students' habits and to encourage them to observe more careful and to make their drawings more precise.
Organization :  Based on practical experimentation, this course is structured in the form of a workshop. Students are encouraged to carry out a piece of personal work around a common subject, which varies throughout the year. These courses are envisaged as a permanent exercise. In other words, alongside the general teaching which is given to the whole group, the overall aim is to give personal attention to each student's individual work. In this case, the end result is less important than the progress which the student has made. Independence and artistic intelligence will be highlighted.
The workshop will call upon visual experiences from day to day life, with different exercises related to the body in general.
Assessment :  Continuous assessment from week to week, summary exercises, tests to check the skills acquired.
