| Course contents : | This course proposes a theoretical approach to teaching the dramatic arts: What information to teach? How to structure this information? What methods should be used to present the information? It also aims to prepare future students for practical teaching of the dramatic arts. The course will cover questions relating to lesson preparation, classroom management, methods of presenting information and how to assess teaching. It will also provide students with information about existing didactic material which may be useful to them in the course of their future profession.

 | Throughout the academic year, students must carry out 40 hours of teaching placement in higher secondary teaching establishments. These hours are split over three main sessions: November, January-February, March-April. Each teaching placement must be carried out in a different school and with a different audience (general teaching, professional teaching, teaching for qualifications and/or adult education) During each placement, the student will manage one or more classes. Students will prepare and present lessons on subjects chosen with the placement supervisor. |

 | After each teaching placement, students are invited to present and share with the rest of the class, their experience of the placement. This discussion is marked by four main themes: classroom management, the subject, timing and didactic material. |

 | Students must take part in non-classroom based school activities for ten hours. They can thus choose to be constructively involved in different types of activities: activities linked to how the establishment is run and relations with its different actors (for example, shadowing a pupil supervisor in their work for a day), activities specifically designed for secondary students but organised outside the school context (for example, supervising students during a visit to a museum or an exhibition), activities specifically directed at secondary students by extra-curricular associations or organisations (homework clubs, teaching in hospitals, permanent educational NGOs carrying out scientific/artistic activities). |

 | The teaching placements allow students to put into place the teaching practices they have studied in class and began during the exercises and observation placement. Spreading the placements over three sessions should allow students to develop their training project by meeting different student audiences, encountering new practical experience with their theoretical teaching and to benefit from the advice and comments of other staff (placement supervisors, pedagogical monitors, special didactics staff). |

 | These reflective exercises aim to lead students to take a step back from their placement and reflect on them through the four main themes given above. The discussions are also an opportunity to share experiences and/or identify problems encountered during the placements and try to find solutions. |

 | On the basis of given scenarios, students will be encouraged to reflect, in groups of two or three, on their future teaching practice and teaching the dramatic arts, using concepts and pedagogical tools introduced during the theoretical part of the course. After appointing a representative, each group of students with then share the results of their discussions with the rest of the class. Each presentation will give rise to a debate. Moreover, in "Part II" of the course (AESS0228-F-a), each student will present a lesson on a given subject to the rest of the class. This will be the final exercise and will take place at the end of the year. This will allow all students to be assessed at the end of the didactic and pedagogical training. |

 | Before each teaching placement, students should meet a special didactics staff member at least once (lecturer, assistants, pedagogical monitors). These interviews will give them the chance to discuss lesson preparation, match the teaching methods to the subject matter being taught and to find solutions to any problems. At the end of the year, students must submit a written document certifying that each interview took place (dates, times and signature of the member of special didactic staff met). Moreover, at the end of each teaching placement, students must submit a placement report summarising lesson preparation and the documents given to pupils during the classes. Detailed instructions for this report given in the document distributed to students at the start of the year. |

 | After having taken part in ten hours of non-classroom based activities, students must submit a written document certifying that they have taken part in these activities. This document must include the date, the nature of the activities, the signature of the person responsible for the activity and the stamp of the organisation employing this person. |

| Assessment : | Assessment takes the form of continuous assessment on the different didactic exercises carried out in class, the observation placement report, assessment by placement supervisors, evaluation of the lessons observed by the special didactic staff during the teaching placements, reports on the teaching placements as well as the public lesson presented by students at the end of the year.

 | Students will be continuously assessed, based on their attendance in class, participation in discussions, respect for the guidelines given for the exercises, involvement in the exercises and their ability to put into practice the pedagogical concepts and tools studied, both in the different scenarios proposed during class and in their end of year public presentation. Assessment will be based on students' work throughout the course. Attendance at classes is therefore compulsory. Attendance of lower than 60% will automatically lead to an insufficient grade (fail) for the course and the exercises. |

 | For each teaching placement, students will be assessed by their placement supervisor who will submit a detailed report on the student's work throughout the placement to the special didactics department. Alongside this external evaluation, each placement is also evaluated by a representative of the special didactics department who will attend at least one hour of lessons given by the student (at least three hours of observation over the entire teaching placements). This internal evaluation will also be based on the placement report which each student must submit at the end of the three placements. Instructions for how the placements will take place and the report to be submitted as well as how these will be evaluated are given in a document distributed to all students at the start of the year. These teaching placements are compulsory. Students who have not carried out the three teaching placements will be required to resit the course as a result of incomplete training. Thus, any placement report which is not submitted within the deadline given by the special didactic department will lead to a grade of 0/20, which will be taken into account in the internal evaluation by the special didactics department for the placement to which the non-submitted report relates. |

 | The reflective exercises are evaluated in terms of "achieved" or "not achieved". If students participate in the planned sessions, they will be up to date with their training. If not, they will be obliged to submit a written paper in the form of personal reflection and critique of the placement experience. |

 | Non-classroom based activities are assessed in terms of "achieved" or "not achieved". Thus, failure to participate in this placement will lead to the student being required to resit as a result of incomplete training. |
