| Course contents : | Alongside the courses of specific didactics, centred on teaching/learning sequences of particular knowledge, this course of general didactics is situated at a more systemic level and discusses pedagogical issues that may have a scope section. |
 |
| Course objective : |
- Discovering and understanding some central concepts of general pedagogy.
- Understanding and developing a critical thinking on certain characteristics of the school system in the French Speaking Community of Belgium, mainly in terms of teaching practices that can reduce (vs. increase) inequalities between students.
- Confronting one's own ideas for understanding how they may affect one's educational activities.
- Analyzing various factors that may influence students learning.
- Interpreting teaching/learning situations with the aim of understanding and evaluating the possible effect of one's actions and to make informed educational choices
|
 |
| Prerequisites : | None. |
 |
| Workshops : | Read "Organization". |
 |
| Organization : | The organization of the course is based on the articulation of theory and practice within four training modalities:
- A theoretical course which aims at elaborating a conceptual framework linked with educational researches and teaching practices.
- An observation training course, which aims at focusing on some specific educational issues, such as time management or investment of students in learning tasks. It will be exploited at a specific session.
- The exercises, conducted in disciplinary or multidisciplinary groups, which aim at working on one's own conceptions of teaching, in analysing educational practices and specific topics through different situations (as a learner, a teacher, an evaluator, ...).
- The reflective practice seminars, which aim at enabling the exchange, analysis and conceptualization of the situations encountered during teaching
Attendance at the exercises and the seminars is compulsory. |
 |
| Written notes : | Various documents (including theoretical texts and a copy of ppt) will be made available to students. |
 |
| Assessment : | The evaluation concerns abilities to reflect about the teaching practice in link with the real educational contexts from concepts supplied by the theoretical framework, experiences from the teaching practices and formative activities based on the seminars.
Three parts will intervene in the final certification.
a) A written examination (in January) which aims at checking the understanding of theoretical concepts covered in the theoretical lessons and used in the didactical exercises.
b) A work in group on the interview of teachers (due late April - early May).
c) An individual work based on theoretical arguments and making a critical reflection on aspects of one's own teaching and professional identity (to be submitted at the end of the year, at a date to be determined later). |
