Course contents :  The course aims at analyzing, increasing awareness and implementing theoretical Concepts of Group Dynamics, particularly in the organisation of efficient meetings, decision making processes, interpersonal communication, negotiation or conflict management. A learning by doing approach will allow direct experimentation and observation of group interactions within the student's groups of interdisciplinary projects. These project groups are indeed an opportunity for the students to observe and experiment interactions as well as his/her own impact on the group processes.
Becoming aware of what's happening between group members is the first step to increased responsibility for the group in achieving its objectives. The approach in this course will be more managerial than purely sociological or psychological, in order to prepare future practitioners in their responsibilities in public, private companies and/or associations. Concepts of Systemic versus linear communication approaches (Palo Alto school), group structures, group polarities, team members' roles, power games, influence, manipulation will be presented and exercized.
Student's evaluation will be based on his/her ability to take the necessary step back to observe and analyse the interactions in his/her group, his/her dedicated personal research on relevant topics for his/her group, and on the tentative measures proposed to improve the teamwork efficiency.
Though we shall use the interdisciplinary project teams as a support to your learning experience, the course does not address any content of those projects, but the container, the form and processes within the project elaboration. Enjoy the course.
Course objective :  This course has the intention for the student to become aware of interactions within a group, for instance while organizing meetings, during team decision process, negotiation or conflict resolution. This course is willing to be practice-oriented and based on the learning by doing concept.
After completing the course the student is expected to
to take some distance from the content itself of a discussion, in order to focus on the form of that discussion. He will be able to learn to observe and recognise his/her own emotions, and decide how she/he wishes to express them and behave towards the objectives set by and for the group project.
