| Course contents : | - Study of the different groups of feedstuffs (cereals, oil seeds, pulses, tubers and roots, forages, by-products of cereals, tubers and roots, protein concentrates - oilseeds cakes and meals - animal protein concentrates, ...). - Methods of preservation of feedstuffs (ensiling, hay making, dehydration) and industrial treatments (pelleting, cooking, extrusion, ...). - Antinutritive factors. - Main moulds and toxins. - Additives (personal presentation). - Calculation of energy and protein values of feedstuffs for monogastrics, birds and ruminants. - Identification of feedstuffs. - Visit of a feed industry. |

| Course objective : | - To describe the different groups of feedstuffs, their nutritive characteristics and values, their use in animal feeding. To identify the main feedstuffs and calculate their nutritional values. After completing the course the student is expected to - to recognise the main feedstuffs used by domestic animals in the world and to be aware with their principal nutritional characteristics - to master the main technologies used in the livestock feed industry - to establish mixed feed and rations for monogastrics and ruminants |
