| Credits/ECTS : |

| Holder(s) : | Manfred Beckers |
| Language : | Langue allemande |
| Course contents : | The purpose of the course is to allow students to learn about a certain number of easily accessible documents concerning social or political topics, written in German. |
| Course objective : | This course aims to familiarise students with reading texts written in German. While students should have a good basic knowledge of the language, in-depth knowledge is not required; the course does not focus on grammatical or lexical difficulties in the German language. |
| Prerequisites : | While students should have basic knowledge of this language, in-depth knowledge is not required. |
| Organization : | Teaching is based on active participation in class. On the basis of German texts, students can express themselves in this language or in French.
Students will be regularly asked to look for and bring documents that are likely to be of interest in class, for instance, current newspaper articles. Every participant must present a comparative analysis of two articles dealing with the same subject, with one from a French review and the other from a German one. The presentations are done in German and the debates - according to the level and progress in the knowledge of German - in German and/or in French.
This class takes place during the first semester once a week for each student or group of students, depending on the circumstances. |
| Assessment : | The exam will be in the form of an oral discussion based on documents written in German. Students can express themselves in French, but have to show overall knowledge of the document they are presenting, though an in-depth grammatical analysis is not required. If students speak in German, this will be taken into account in the marking. |
