| Course contents : | The course is based on the comparative method. It focuses on a critical approach to the concepts of democracy, ahthoritarianism and totalitarism on the basis of theories developed by some political scientists and of the comparison between various contemporary political systems both within Europe and outside Europe. Case studies illustrate each of the various concepts we consider. |

| Course objective : | Help students to understand, that is, give meaning to, a particular action or the way an institution functions, or the recurrent use of a political practice. |
