| Course contents : | First part
Presentation of North-South relationships in their historical context: colonial operations and the birth of the concept of development: Congo, Algeria, Rwanda, (5 hours)
Second part
Presentation of concepts of development, under-development and 'aid through development' using the main theories of development and the main political contexts and institutions. In conclusion the following questions will be tackled: the end of the Third-World, development failure, revision of contemporary theories (15 hours).
Third part
The socio-anthropology of contemporary operations in developing countries through international politics of aid and co-operation and the operations of development institutions and partnerships. Case studies and main examples taken from African experiences. |

| Course objective : | Knowledge of evolution of the main development theories, co-operation and relationships between the North and South. The ability to undertake historical, comparative and critical analyses of speeches, ideologies and methods of aid organisations and development programmes. |
