Course contents :  General view

The course articulates around three dimensions:

(1) study of the developmental path of first numerical learning's in children and focus on the generally difficulties observed;

(2) general view of researches centered on mathematical disabilities and presentation of diagnosis tests of mathematical competencies;

(3) discovery of some ways to carry on pupils with mathematical difficulties (with games' supports for instance).
Course objective :  Course purpose

To allow pupils to acquire necessary theoretical bases to understand children's development of numerical abilities, to find out and to understand associated difficulties.

To give the basic clues to allow students to involve themselves in a personal thinking work in the aim of helping children with mathematical difficulties.
Prerequisites :  Pre-requisite

None pre-requisite is necessary.
Workshops :  Practical work

To realize a practical work including a theoretical synthesis and a critical presentation of a game (work to realize in small groups).
Organization :  Organization

Organization of about ten theoretical lessons and realization of a practical work in small groups. Extra information will be added in relation with the number of the enrolled students.
Written notes :  Notes

The slides presented during the courses and the notes written by students during these courses constitute the main matter (slides will be available on the web for all students)

A book will complete the notes : Barrouillet, P. & Camos, V. (2006). La cognition mathématique chez l'enfant. Marseille : Solal.
Assessment :  Assessment

There will be a written exam aiming to assess knowledge and understanding of the matter.

Le practical work (in small group) will be taken into account in the final quote. The balancing between those two parts will be specified later on.
