Course contents :  The course will provide an introduction to critical whiteness studies (a theoretical movement which emerged in the American academy and is exemplified in the work of bell hooks, Toni Morrison, Richard Dyer and Ruth Frankenberg), with a view to gaining a purchase on a selection of contemporary postcolonial texts ostensibly concerned with the way in which 'whiteness' constructs dominant epistemologies.

The following novels in particular will be discussed in class:

J. M. Coetzee, Foe (1984)

Mohsin Hamid, The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007)

David Malouf, Remembering Babylon (1993)
Organization :  See : http://cipl82.philo.ulg.ac.be/horaires
