-discussion topics,
-role plays,
-presentations. |
 |
| Course objective : | -Develop reading, listening, data gathering and communication skills.
-Teach and reinforce more advanced grammar and sentence structures.
-Allow students to discuss in English and make presentations in front of the whole class. |
 |
| Prerequisites : | Only a small proportion of teaching time will be devoted to grammar revision. This implies that basic grammatical structures are considered part of the A-level curriculum and should be mastered.
Should students need to revise grammar at home, we suggest using either "La Grammaire anglaise de base" (available at Intercopy, Sart Tilman), Eastwood's "Practice Grammar (OUP)" or Murphy's "English Grammar in Use" (CUP). |
 |
| Workshops : | In addition to attending class regularly, students will be expected to undertake three hours study in English per week outside the classroom throughout the academic year i.e research and prepare for upcoming classes as required, organise and acquire a considerable volume of relevant vocabulary, organise their work themselves, either alone or in small teams and do the exercises from the exercise section.
Students will be asked to write essays on the different topics discussed in class. Classwork throughout the year will be taken into account in the final marking in May and in August.
Students will be asked to make a compulsory and marked oral presentation to the class (pair work). |
 |
| Organization : | 2 hours a week of class for one year and 1 hour a week of laboratory exercises for one semester.
Schedules and location will be available at a later date. |
 |
| Written notes : | Market Leader (new edition) Longman.
English level B - Business supplement. Available from Intercopy, Sart Tilman |
 |
| Assessment : | A grammar test and 2 writing tests will be organised during the year during the weeks of 17th November, 9th February and 9th March.
The presentations will take place in the weeks: 17th November, 8th December, 9th February, 9th March, 30th March.
All tests and essays will be taken into account as classwork.
The exam in January will count for 4 marks. The final exam, testing the language and skills taught, includes a written and an oral exam and a listening comprehension. They are all compulsory. Students failing the final exam will have to resit both the written and oral exams. Students failing the exam in January have to retake it in August.
The final marks (20 marks) will be awarded as follows:
Written exam - 6 marks
Oral exam - 6 marks
Presentation - 2 marks
Classwork - 2 marks
