Course contents :  This course aims to develop the four linguistic skills, i.e. :

  • oral expression
  • written expression
  • listening comprehension
  • reading comprehension
Course objective :  
  • Oral expression : coherent and syntactically correct reconstruction of a text
  • Written expression : producing a coherent and grammatically correct narrative text
Prerequisites :  None.
Organization :  3 hours of classes per week with compulsory attendance.

Method :

  • Active and direct requiring the students' continuous participation, training in comprehension (reading, listening) and expression (written and oral)
  • Students are asked to do pieces of practical work: presentations with a written file, essays and text summaries.
Written notes :  The course notes will be handed out by the course leader at the beginning of each lesson.

Assessment :  - 25 % of the mark: continuous assessment, including the exam in January which does not exempt students from other exams
- 75 %: assessment in June: oral and written exam

  • 50 %: oral exam: half of it is based on a compulsory novel. Students will be questioned on the contents and vocabulary in the text. For the other half, students will be tested on the course contents and will prove that they are capable of speaking simply and spontaneously about the subjects dealt with over the year. Students will show that they are easily able to express themselves orally using simple, correct language.
  • 50 %: written exam: write a coherent, structured and correct text talking about an event or an experience, which describes a hope or a goal and/or give the reasons for or explanations about a project or an idea.
