| Course contents : | - revision of basic grammar + exercises - extension of basic vocabulary - development of the four linguistic skills |

| Course objective : | To reach level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, i.e.: B1 - Threshold
Students can understand the essential points when clear, standard language is used. They can speak in a simple, correct and coherent way on familiar subjects and on their areas of interest. They can talk about an event, an experience, describe a hope or a goal and briefly explain the reasons or provide explanations behind a project or an idea.
Students will master the grammar and vocabulary studied during the year. |

| Organization : | - As regards the grammar: the course leader will vary the learning techniques: ex cathedra, contrastive, deduction of rules, etc.
- The students will be asked to carry out practical pieces of work: internet searches, presentations with a written file, essays and text summaries and small translations into Dutch. Students will be asked to follow the news in Flanders and/or the Netherlands by regularly listening to the news at home in order to discuss it in class.
- Throughout the course, increasing emphasis will be put on the productive aspect of the language (written and oral expression) |

| Assessment : | - 25 % of the mark : continuous assessment, including the exam in January
- 75 % of the mark : exam in June including:
- 50 %: written exam : write a coherent, structured and correct text talking about an event or an experience, which describes a hope or a goal and/or give the reasons for or provide explanations about a project or an idea. Students will have the choice between different subjects as a starting point. + listening comprehension
- 50 %: oral exam : based on a file of press articles compiled by the student, he/she will be questioned orally on the contents and vocabulary in the articles. Students will prove that they are able to speak simply and spontaneously about the subjects which they learnt about while preparing their file. Students will show that they are easily able to express themselves orally using simple, correct language.
