Course contents :  1.- Introduction to legal anthropology - 3 major families of criminal law: Russian, Anglo-American, Muslim -Elements of criminal policy systems.

2.- The major issues of criminal procedures: the balance between the group and the individual: who has the power to prosecute and with which means? What are the rights of the person being prosecuted? What are the rules of evidence?
3.- Relations between criminal law and criminal procedures according to the legal systems.
Course objective :  Understanding the different criminal and procedural systems in order to better master the structure of the Belgian system and understand the difficult relations between systems.
Prerequisites :  Criminal law and the Belgian criminal procedure and comparative law (René David, Les grands systèmes de droit contemporains, aux Précis Dalloz).

Organization :  The course is organised entirely in the form of a seminar requiring students to prepare the subject.
