 |  | Courses and exercices |

 |
 | At the end of the training given throughout the Didactics of Social Sciences classes (including teaching practice and reflective practices), students must be able to: -deconstruct their initial ideas; -prepare a teaching programme in social sciences.
By teaching programme, we mean a set of lessons based on the same theme.
-fully understand the elements of a collegiate and interdisciplinary approach of teaching activities; -create, organise, manage and implement a set of teaching activities constituting a seminar;
-think about the teaching media used in a reflective and critical way |

 |
 | The first part of the Didactics of Social Sciences course will be take place during the first quadrimester, between 17th September and 17th December 2008.
Knowledge acquired during the Didactics of Social Sciences course (part 1) and the teaching practice will be assessed on the basis of an overall mark of 80 points (condensed to 20 points) and composed as follows: (1) Attendance at the Didactics of Social Sciences classes (1 point per class), marked out of 10 points.
(2) Writing a lesson plan on an obligatory theme. Each student will present a lesson in front of his fellow-students on a given theme. After presenting the lesson, the student can meet one of the members of the teaching team to make the necessary corrections. The lesson will be corrected and handed in to one of the members of the teaching team before Monday 3rd November 2008. The corrected lesson will be assessed on the level of correctness and accuracy of its content. It will be marked out of a total of 10 points.
(3) The first teaching practice covering a period of 4 to 6 hours.
The number of hours worked during the pre-teaching practice period is variable. However, it may not exceed 6 hours. The following factors will be taken into account in the summative assessment of the first teaching practice: 1. grasp of disciplinary knowledge, 2. attitude in relation to the position (ethical and deontological aspects), 3. suitability of the contents with regard to the level and needs of the pupils. The other aspects of performance will be the subject to a formative assessment. The course will be assessed by the special didactics teaching team, after consultation with the teaching practice leader. If a student fails to meet the required standard, the assessment will take the form of a written report. Sufficient room will be allowed for a critical consideration of this initial experience. Please note that students must attend an individual teaching guidance meeting (reflective practices) at the end of this pre-teaching practice period. The pre-teaching practice period must be completed between 3rd and 24th of November 2008 (CIFEN schedule). It will be marked out of 10 points. 4. A written preparation plan for a set of lessons.
On the basis of the observations made and thoughts suggested within the context of the classes dedicated to the presentation of the obligatory lessons, students must write a preparation plan for a set of lessons including what they consider to be the essential points, written in chronological order. This preparation plan must be handed in to the teaching team by Friday 5th December 2008 at the latest. It will be marked out of 10 points.
(5) An intermediate summary report.
At the end of the training offered within the framework of the Didactics of Social Sciences course (part 1), all students are required to write a personal report on what they consider to be essential in their experience of teaching social sciences, and what they found the most difficult in the teaching process. This report, as well as the preparation plan for a set of lessons, will be presented and discussed during an individual meeting between the student and the teaching team. It must be handed in to the teaching team on Friday 5th December 2008. It will be marked out of 20 points
(6) Participation in individual teaching supervision meetings (REFLECTIVE PRACTICES).
For assessment purposes, the following will be taken into account;
1. class attendance (any absence will be penalised); 2. ability to integrate the comments and advice given, to adopt a critical attitude regarding performance and accept the need to deconstruct their original ideas.
Part 1 will be assessed during the months of December 2008 and January 2009. If a student experiences major difficulties, the teaching team may impose individualised adjustments to the contents of the Didactics of Social Sciences course. |
