MECA0017-2  Control system for land vehicles (partim: vehicle dynamics)
Duration :  15h Th, 15h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
civil engineering in electromechanics, 3rd year2,5
Holder(s) :  Pierre Duysinx
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Nowadays, automotive vehicles have turned into complex electromechanical systems or mechatronics systems, in which mechanics, electronics and software are closely related. These devices are embarqued in the vehicle to make it as an intelligent system. The goal of the lecture is to introduce the principles of these new components. As these ones resort more and more often to miniaturisation and microsystems, an introduction is also provided to this new domain.

The following topics will be visited:

  • Introduction and motivation
  • Control of the vehicle dynamics: cruise control, anti lock bracking systems (ABS), anti skid, control of lateral dyanmics (ESP), active and semi-active suspensions.
  • Introduction to MEMS and their applications to vehicular systems.
Course objective :  The goal of this lecture is to give an outlook of the novel mechatronic approach of vehicles, especially of the systems related to the vehicle dynamics control.
Prerequisites :  Performance and dynamics of vehicles. Control systems.
Workshops :
  • Computer exercices in Matlab-Simulink
  • Documentation collection
Organization :  The lecture are given in the second part of first quadrimester (November and December). 7 periods of 4 hours. Exam in June.
Written notes :
  • Copy of slides
  • Copy of papers and book chapters

Assessment :
  • Oral exam with open books
  • Presentation of computer works realized during the lectures
