Course contents :  The course begins with an introduction to the historical and sociological background to Caribbean literature. After a brief overview of Caribbean literature (seen as a regional, national and diasporic tradition) and its major figures, the rest of the course is devoted to the discussion of selected poems, short stories and novels, most of them written by contemporary writers. A new theme is chosen every year. The topic for 2007-2008 is "Masks and Masquerade in Caribbean Literature".
Course objective :  Introduction to anglophone Caribbean Literature with a discussion of representative literary works.
Prerequisites :  A good knowledge of English.

Written notes :  Poems, short stories and excerpts from novels will be available at the beginning of the course.

Assessment :  Written essay and oral examination.
