| Course contents : | This course aims at developing and strengthening communication skills in both everyday and business contexts.
Course contents:
- explanation & discussion of recent articles / audio or video documents on socio-economic, financial, (inter-)cultural or political topics;
- presentation and discussion of episodes 1 to 5 of Kapers op de kust (story of a SME, business Dutch).

| Course objective : | Mastery of business Dutch in situations requiring oral communication (listening comprehension; speaking) & written communication (reading comprehension, writing documents). |

| Prerequisites : | Mastery of everyday Dutch & basic "technical" vocabulary (Dutch levels 1 to 3). |
 |
| Organization : | 2 hours spread over 2 modules (each module consists of 6 weeks). The 1st module starts on 11/02/08 and ends on 21/03/08. The 2nd module starts on 28/04/08 and ends on 06/06/08.
The course is mainly organized as a seminar (there are about 30 students in a group) implying the active participation of students. Students will be asked to prepare (in advance) the exercises and documents on which the course is based.
- oral exercises: debates, conversation clubs, business simulations.
- writing exercises: writing reports, summary of lectures, interviews.
- listening comprehension exercises.
- exercises aiming at developing the acquisition of "technical" vocabulary.
Student work is shared out as following:
Class attendance: 24 h Reading, preparation of the exercises and study: 48 h Preparation and presentation of a roleplay; interview of a Dutch speaking person about his profession (24 h). |

| Assessment : | listening comprehension test (after the 2nd module; 20% of the global mark)
2 written exams:
a) after the 3rd module (20%): vocabulary of the multimedia files + questions on Kapers op de kust
b) during module 2 (10%): interview of a Dutch speaking person about his / her profession.
3 oral tests:
a) during module 2 (15%): roleplay b) after module 2: oral presentation of the interview + personal opinion (15%) c) at the end of module 3 (20%): oral examination about the training period and the multimedia files.
Criteria for evaluation:
Listening comprehension test: capacity to understand and formulate the main ideas of a broadcast.
Written tests: - knowledge of the specific vocabulary and the grammatical structures; - accurate language; - quality of the contents.
Oral tests: - accuracy and fluency; - quality of the contents; - capacity to defend one's point of view. |
