| Course contents : | The course will take place during the second semester on the Sart Tilman Campus.
The course is structured in two parts:
The first part comprises some 20 hours of theoretical lectures. These lectures will allow to describe the sector of the social economy in Belgium, to understand its raison d'être and to deduce its specificity in terms of management (in particular for marketing, funding modes and management of human resources).
The second part has a more active character. Students will be invited to create a social enterprise by chossing themeselves the activity : fair trade, work-integration social economy, ethical finance, waste recycling, cultural activities, health |

| Course objective : | The social economy refers to the group constituted by the enterprises of the private sector whose main goal is of a social nature. Most of these enterprises are non-profit organisations (associations), cooperatives, NGOs, mutual societies and foundations. These forms of organisations are still very little studied from the point of view of management sciences.
This course seeks to improve the knowledge of the social economy, to highlight the specificity of management in social economy enterprises and to propose tools adapted to entrepreneurship and management in this sector. |

| Prerequisites : | ECO 426 Introduction to Economics |

| Organization : | Presentation of the basic principles by the lecturer. Intervention of guest academic experts & accounts of their experience. Visits in companies. individual assignments. Debates |

| Written notes : | The students will be informed of the existence of a collection of notes covering some of the chapters of the course. Complementary bibliographical references will be given during the classes. |

| Assessment : | The students will be evaluated on the basis of (1) their project, on the one hand (10 points) and (2) an examination on the other hand (10 points). |
