| Course contents : | The course will be devoted to the study of recent issues pertaining to international aspects of intellectual property rights. Among the themes explored, cross border disputes relating to patents in a European context will receive substantial attention. Issues of applicable law will be studied in relation to the main intellectual property rights (copyright, patents, etc).
During the first class meeting, a brief overview of the main principles and rules of private international law will be given as a refresher. |

| Prerequisites : | A working knowlegde of the basic principles of private international law (issues of jurisdiction, applicable law and recognition and enforcement of foreigns judgments) is required. |

| Organization : | The course will be taught in a mixed style : classic lectures will be followed by discussions of court decisions and cases which students are required to have actively studied beforehand. |

| Written notes : | Students will be given a detailed handout for each class, with indications on the rules studied and their practical application. For the most part, these handouts are work in progress.
Students will also be given copies of the relevant statutory materials as well as copies of the most important court decisions, with a list of questions in order to better understand the court's ruling. |

| Assessment : | Students will be required to take part in an oral examination. They will be asked to solve a simple case or to comment on a recent court decision. |
