Duration :15h Th, 20h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
3rd year of a Bachelor's degree in geographical sciences, general orientation4
Holder(s) :Thierry Bastin
Course contents : The theoretical course is divided into 4 chapters
Chap. I : linear systems (Gauss-Jordan algorithm and LU decomposition)
Chap. II : The spline curves.
Chap. III : Numerical integration (trapez, Simpson and Monte-Carlo methods)
Chap. IV : Roots, minima and maxima of a function
Course objective :
  • To learn using the computers to solve various problems encountered in physics.
  • To teach the related algorithms
  • To translate these algorithms in C/C++
Prerequisites : None
Workshops : 7 afternoons.
Organization : The theoretical and practical courses are given in the first quadrimestre.

Theoretical course: on friday, 8h30 - 10h30 in room 3/14 of the Physics building B5
Practical course: on friday, 9h - 12h in room 4/25 of the Physics building B5
Written notes : No notes. However, copy of the slides are available and distributed at the beginning of the course.
Assessment : Evaluation is weighted as follows

- 40% for oral examination
- 35% for practical examination (a program to write)
- 25% for the works done during the year

If the note for the practical examination is less than 10, this note is the final one.
