Course contents : The following topics are presented and discussed:
1. Protein structure
2. Structure of nucleic acids, DNA replication, transcription, synthesis of proteins
3. Protein function
4. Structure and function of biological membranes
5. Metabolic energy
6. Peptidoglycan synthesis and mode of action of penicillin
Course objective : Give the chemistry students an overview of the properties of biomolecules and of the utilisation of energy by living organisms.
Prerequisites : General, physical and organic chemitry, level BSc 2.
Organization : 14 or 15 2-hr lectures.
Written notes : Available.
Assessment : Oral exam
